Introductions....

Hi, I'm Kristina and I've been a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) since 2008. In August 2014, I went back to school to get my Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Having already been through a nursing program, I realize now exactly how smart* I was while I was in school, but after working for 6 years with truly wonderful people and their very specific needs, it's become pretty clear that everything I didn't use, I lost. Temporarily, I hope!

It's a fact that the longer we are out of school, the more we forget. If you need proof of this, try talking to an 8th grader about US History. This is also the reason why "Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?" was created.

This is one of the reasons I'm starting this blog: so that I can preserve some of this wonderful knowledge before I forget it!

Another reason is that lately, my news feed on Facebook has been overtaken by the vaccine debate. I posted something to a mommy group on Facebook and got 60 likes and 60 comments. Then my friend, Emily, sent me a link to an article which completely contradicted what I said in the group which had a rather large following all its own. I decided that starting a blog would be MY answer to many "hot topics" while my brain was full of all this fabulous info that could lend credence to my posts. (HA!)

DISCLAIMER: That said, I am NOT the all-mighty authority on all things "medical."  This blog is comprised of my own careful UNBIASED research and the opinions I have formed based on such research. Any ideas that aren't my own will be given the credit they deserve. I want this to be a place that is "TRUSTED" in terms of medical knowledge, but that will also try bring light to "the other side" of the debate, whether I agree with it or not. If you want to print out a post and bring it to discuss with your doctor, I'm fine and very happy with that. If you would like to cite my posts in school papers, speeches, whatever, I'm happy with that, but please email me and I will give you proper information to cite the page (ie: my full name).

I am NOT a doctor. I am NOT a substitute for seeing your doctor.

I AM a nurse, however.... but I AM NOT YOUR NURSE! I legally cannot diagnose or prescribe anything. I also cannot treat or even suggest anything for your ailments. Seriously. If you have a headache, I'm not legally allowed to tell you to take Advil, Aspirin, Tylenol, or whatever other medication claims to relieve headaches because it is considered "prescribing medication."  So please don't ask me! I'm not spending 5+ years in school and $150,000+ just to lose my license because you don't want to go to your doctor.

*I know I'm no smarter now than I was when I was back in school. But thinking back today, I wish so much that I kept testing myself with those NCLEX questions and generally just made more of an effort to remember the details about topics that I already knew plenty about.
